Understanding Step Types: Questionnaires, E-Signatures, and Tutorials

360Onboard gives you three powerful step types to create comprehensive onboarding flows. Each serves a different purpose in your client onboarding process.

The Three Step Types

1. Questionnaires

Purpose: Collect information from your clients through forms and surveys.

Best For:

  • Gathering business information
  • Understanding brand preferences
  • Collecting project requirements
  • Learning about client goals and needs

How It Works:

  • Clients answer questions you've set up
  • Questions can be required or optional
  • You can use templates or create custom fields
  • All responses are saved to your dashboard

Available Templates: Questionnaires come with pre-built templates including:

  • Brand voice and tagline questions
  • Content preferences
  • Other common onboarding information needs

Custom Fields: You can add your own field types to ask any question you need. Simply click "Add Field" and create your custom question.

2. E-Signature Forms

Purpose: Get legally binding signatures on documents and agreements.

Best For:

  • Service agreements
  • Contracts
  • Invoices
  • Terms and conditions
  • Any document requiring a signature

How It Works:

  • Upload or create a form that needs signing
  • Add signature fields where clients should sign
  • Add name fields for typed names
  • Clients can choose to either draw their signature or type it
  • Signed documents are automatically saved

Available Templates:

  • Invoice templates
  • Other standard business forms

Customization: You can add signature fields and name fields anywhere on your document. The signature will appear directly on the form just like a physical signature.

3. Tutorials

Purpose: Guide clients step-by-step through granting you access to their accounts or completing setup processes.

Best For:

  • Connecting to client accounts
  • Platform access setup
  • Technical configuration guidance
  • Any process that needs clear instructions

How It Works:

  • Present step-by-step instructions to your client
  • Guide them through account access procedures
  • Provide screenshots or written guidance
  • Ensure consistent setup across all clients

Available Templates: 360Onboard includes pre-built tutorial templates for:

  • Google Ads access
  • GoDaddy access
  • HubSpot access
  • Yelp access
  • Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Other common account connections

Why Use Templates: These tutorials are pre-written so you don't have to manually type out instructions. They ensure your clients can easily grant you the access you need to their accounts.

Using Step Types Together

The power of 360Onboard comes from combining these step types into a complete onboarding flow. Here are some common combinations:

Example 1: Marketing Agency Onboarding

  • Questionnaire - Collect brand information and goals
  • E-Signature - Sign service agreement
  • Tutorial - Grant access to Google Ads and social media accounts

Example 2: Web Design Client

  • Questionnaire - Gather website requirements and preferences
  • Tutorial - Grant access to domain registrar and hosting
  • E-Signature - Sign project contract

Example 3: Content Creation Service

  • Questionnaire - Understand brand voice and content preferences
  • E-Signature - Sign content license agreement
  • Tutorial - Grant access to social media accounts for posting

Step Sequencing Tips

When building your flow, consider this order:

  • Start with Questionnaires - Collect information first so you understand the client's needs
  • Add Tutorials - Help them set up access or complete technical tasks
  • End with E-Signatures - Once everything is clear, get final agreement

Of course, you can arrange steps in whatever order makes sense for your specific onboarding process.

What Clients Experience

From your client's perspective:

  • They receive a personalized link
  • They work through each step in order
  • They can see their progress
  • Required fields must be completed before moving forward
  • They receive a thank you page upon completion

By understanding these three step types and how they work together, you can create powerful, professional onboarding experiences that save you time and impress your clients.
